SECTION 3:
INSTALLATION
3.01 Location
Fo r best ope r ating cha r acte r istics and longest unit life,
take ca r e in selecting the installation site. Avoid locations
exposed to high humidity, dust, high ambient tempe r atu r e,
o r co rr osive fumes. Moistu r e can condense on elect r ical
components, causing co rr osion o r sho r ting of ci r cuits.
Di r t on components will r etain this moistu r e and also
inc r eases wea r on moving pa r ts.
Adequate ai r ci r culation is needed at all times in o r de r to
assu r e p r ope r ope r ation. P r ovide a minimum of 12”
(300mm) of f r ee ai r space at both the f r ont and r ea r of
the unit. Make su r e that the ventilation openings a r e not
obst r ucted.
CAUTION
The Fab r icato r is not suitable fo r use in r ain.
3.02 Safety
Refe r to additional installation inst r uctions unde r the
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS AND WARNINGS (Section 1) in
this manual.
3.03 Grounding
The inte r nal f r ame of this welding machine should be
g r ounded fo r pe r sonal safety. Whe r e g r ounding is
mandato r y unde r state o r local codes, it is the
r esponsibility of the use r to comply with all applicable
r ules and r egulations. Whe r e no state o r local codes exist,
it is r ecommended that the National Elect r ical Code be
followed.
3.04 Electrical Input Requirements
Plug the input co r d into a p r ope r ly g r ounded and p r otected
(by fuse o r ci r cuit b r eake r ) mains r eceptacle capable of
handling a minimum of 20 Ampe r es. The Fab r icato r 140
r equi r es a 120VAC supply voltage and the Fab r icato r 180
r equi r es a 230VAC supply voltage.
The Fab r icato r 140’s powe r co r d is equipped with a NEMA
5-15P plug and will only connect to a NEMA 5-15P
r eceptacle.
The Fab r icato r 180’s powe r co r d is equipped with a NEMA
6-50P plug and will only connect to a NEMA 6-50P
r eceptacle.
CAUTION
Consult the nameplate fo r p r ope r input voltage
and input ampe r age. The method of
installation, conducto r size, and ove r -cu rr ent
p r otection shall confo r m to the r equi r ements
of the local elect r ical code. All installation
wi r ing and machine connection shall be done
by a competent elect r ician.
The National Elect r ical Code (A r ticle 630B) p r ovides
standa r ds fo r ampe r age handling capability of supply
conducto r s based on the duty cycle of the welding powe r
sou r ce. The Fab r icato r 140 has a 20% duty cycle (2
minutes of eve r y 10 minutes can be used fo r welding)
and the Fab r icato r 180 has a 25% duty cycle. The powe r
co r ds supplied with these units comply with these
standa r ds. Ensu r e that the building supply and r eceptacle
comply with NEC standa r ds and any additional state and
local codes.
NOTE
The supply wi r ing fo r the welding powe r
sou r ce must be capable of handling a
minimum of 20 ampe r es. The welding powe r
sou r ce must be the only load connected to
the supply ci r cuit. Poo r unit pe r fo r mance o r
f r equently opening line fuses o r ci r cuit
b r eake r s can r esult f r om an inadequate o r
imp r ope r supply.
CAUTION
Do not connect the Fab r icato r 140 to an input
powe r supply with a r ated voltage that is
g r eate r than 132 +10% VAC. Do not r emove
the powe r co r d g r ound p r ong.
CAUTION
Do not connect the Fab r icato r 180 to an input
powe r supply with a r ated voltage that is
g r eate r than 255 + 10% VAC. Do not r emove
the powe r co r d g r ound p r ong.
