Conveyor
Maneuvering
with
Smart
Sense
2.3.5.1
Activating
Smart
Sense
The following steps are necessary to start movement on a Smart Sense equipped vehicle:
1. Sit in the seat.
2. Apply foot brake.
3. Start the engine.
4. Lower the park brake.
5. Look for green light on the dash to indicate that it is OK to shift into FWD or REV. If this light is not
activated then either the brake pedal is not depressed or the park brake is still ON.
6. Place the shifter into FWD or REV.

Approaching
the
Aircraft
1. Approach Equipment Restraint Area (ERA) with the conveyor in the down position and with full
speed capabilities.
2. Upon reaching the ERA, perform a brake check by slightly raising the conveyor to activate the
Smart Sense system. This will turn the GREEN operator and supervisor lights on and will reduce
the maximum speed to 3.5 mph (6 km/h).
3. To regain movement, move the shifter into the NEUTRAL position, apply the foot brake, and then
shift back into FWD. The lights will turn GREEN and forward motion is resumed.
4. When the conveyor bumper is within 6ft (2m) of the aircraft (or any other object) the lights will start
flashing YELLOW slowly. This indicates that the conveyor bumper is near an object and the speed
limit is reduced to 0.5mph (0.8km/h).
5. To regain movement, move the shifter into the NEUTRAL position, apply the foot brake, and then
shift back into FWD. The lights will flashing YELLOW again and forward motion can resume at this
point.
NOTE:
If optional conveyor up/down inhibit valve is installed then the shifter must be placed into
NEUTRAL before the conveyor can be moved.
NOTE:
The seat switch, indicator lights, sensors, and transmission speed control are all disabled at
this point.
NOTE:
The speed must be controlled
using the brake pedal
to a maximum speed of 3 mph
(6 km/h). If this speed is exceeded then the lights will turn RED and the transmission will
stop the belt loader.
NOTE:
The speed of the vehicle must be controlled using the brake pedal to a maximum speed of
0.5mph (0.8km/h). If this speed is exceeded then the lights will turn RED and the transmis-
sion will stop the belt loader.
NOTE:
As the conveyor bumper approaches the aircraft, the YELLOW lights will start flashing more
rapidly.
