Theory of Operation
Skew measurement and transfix abort. When the paper stops while the transfix
roller rotates into its transfix position, the media width sensor slews to the right
and re-records the paper’s right edge position to determine if the paper is
skewed from its previous position. If gross skewing is detected, the transfix
operation is aborted and a paper jam is reported. After the user removes the
jammed media, a chase sheet is passed through the printer to remove the image
from the drum.
As the transfix operation nears completion, paper preheater exit sensor detects
the trailing edge of the print. The length of the paper is calculated to determine
if it is long enough to completely remove the image from the drum. If the paper
is too short, transfixing will be interrupted and a chase sheet will follow to
remove the remainder of the image.
