Shipping or Transporting the StorageLibrary
Write-Protecting Cartridges
All cartridges have a write-protect (write-inhibit) switch to prevent accidental erasure or overwriting of
data. The switch is located on the left side of the cartridge front. To write-protect the cartridge, slide
the red or orange write-protect switch to the right so that the padlock shows in the closed position.
See
Figure 42
.
Before loading a cartridge into the library, make sure the write-protect switch is positioned correctly
(either on or off).

Barcode Requirements
It is recommended that the barcode label is both machine and operator-readable. A barcode must use
only uppercase letters A to Z and/or numeric values 0–9. The library supports barcode symbology
“Code 39”.
Caution
To ensure reliable functionality of the barcode reader, you must use
StorageLibrary specific barcode labels supported by Tandberg Data.
Attaching Barcode Labels
It is recommended that cartridges have an external barcode label. For purposes of identifying the
barcode, it is recommended that the label is both machine and operator-readable.
All barcode labels must be attached to the front of a cartridge. Peel off the label and place it on the
cartridge. Verify that the label is positioned as illustrated in
Figure 42
. You should avoid attaching
stickers or labels to the top or bottom of the cartridge, since if the labels become loose, they may get
caught in the tape drives, or else become scanner unreadable.
Caution
Place the barcode label ONLY according to
Figure 42
. Placing the label
elsewhere may cause failure or possible damage to the library.
