Time Procedure
Lug Torque
Before Trip Check torque. This may be accomplished the day before & at least every 3
rd
day of an extended trip.
Tires
Before Trip
Check for blisters, cuts, uneven wear, & weather checking. Pressure should be within 10% of “max cold” (45 to
50psi). Check before towing. Also, check during a trip after large changes of temperature or altitude.
Safety Equipment Before Trip
Verify no damage and charge to the fire extinguisher. Check CO2 and propane alarm illuminated. Check First aid
kit installed. Quarterly check the contents of the first aid kit.
Hitch Coupler
Hitching
Free & proper operation. Periodically clean and lubricate. Movement should be smooth, without binding.
Hitch Jack
Hitching
Verify no damage. Should move easily. Cover to extend life.
Safety Chains
Hitching
Verify no damage to trailer chains & emergency brake cable. When connected they should be crossed & hang 3in.
Appliances
During Trip Check exterior vents for obstructions. Monitor operation for changes.
Flooring
During Trip
Sweep & vacuum after each trip. Clean thoroughly once per year. Use a mild soap or cleaning solution. This
includes all throw rugs.
Exterior Lighting
During Trip
Check every time you attach the 7-pin connector. Use tow vehicle running lights to check the trailer running lights.
Use the tow vehicle flashers to check the brake & turn signal lights.
Doors & Windows During Trip
Check seals & lubricate hinges. Periodically clean with soapy water. Avoid Ammonia cleaners. Clean seals with
ArmorAll, at least annually. Periodically clean the inside of the window and space between the window and the
shades.
Propane System
During Trip
Monitor for leaks. Turn on propane slowly. Check tank level for an appropriate quantity. Consider starting each
season full. Refill as necessary based on your use.
Upholstery
During Trip Inspect & clean as needed. Clean up spills immediately. Annually, remove & clean dinette cushions.
Water System
During Trip
Avoid storing with water in the system more than 5 days. Run water through all faucets while camping.
Periodically blow out the systems to prevent stagnant water. Annually sanitize.
Weight
Distribution
During Trip Trailer should be nose heavy, 200 to 300lb at the hitch when loaded.
Cabinets
Monthly
Clean & apply polish as needed. Keep wood polished to avoid damage from condensation and cracking when dry.
The kitchen will need care more often than the cabin.
Exterior
Monthly
Wash, prior to a trip. Wax and store covered to protect from sun. Wax protects the paint from sun damage.
Window Drains
Monthly
Free of obstructions. Clean periodically. See “Doors & Windows.”
Battery
3 Months
Check battery conditions. Check battery terminals clean and secure. Check no leakage. Monitor operation. Voltage
dropping unusually fast indicates approaching end of life.
Brakes
3 Months
Adjust frequently. Disassemble, clean & reassemble at least annually. Repair if any noises, jerkiness or heat is
noted. Check at every stop by hand; the brakes should be similar temperatures.
Electrical System 3 Months
Proper operation & free of damage.
Frame
3 Months
Inspect & repair as needed. Checking for rust, dents & cracks. Pay particular attention to the joint between the
tongue assembly and the main cabin frame.
Sealant – Exterior 3 Months
Inspect & repair as needed. Check more often in the rainy season. Prudent to check after each outing.
Exterior Cleaning 6 Months
Clean & wax. Wax will protect the finish from the sun.
Interior Surfaces
6 Months
Clean and oil wood as needed. At least annually deep clean.
Wheel Bearings
Yearly
Clean, Inspect, & grease wheel bearings at least annually. Normally accomplished in conjunction with brake
maintenance.
Chassis
Components
Yearly
Recommended cleaning & lubrication of the coupler, tongue jack, hinges, etc. This is a minimum time interval.
Check the joint between the tongue assembly & the main cabin frame.
Annual Inspection Yearly
Complete Inspection of all items. Normally accomplished coming out of storage.
