Chapter 5  Maintaining the TimeHub 5500
Upgrading the Software

Backing Up the New Software

Once you install the software and the TimeHub is operating normally, Symmetricom 
recommends that you back it up. After performing the procedure in the previous 
section, each card contains a copy of the new version of MAIN.HXB and, most 
likely, a copy of the version it was running prior to the upgrade in MAIN1.HXB. If 
MAIN.HXB becomes corrupt, then the TimeHub automatically runs MAIN1.HXB. 

This procedure copies the MAIN.HXB file into the MAIN1.HXB file. All cards operate 
normally during this procedure. 

Table 5-10

 summarizes the steps.

Restart the IMC. The ftp session ends; the IMC should 
return to normal operation within a minute.

Note:

 The newly-upgraded clock is busy polling each card in the 

system to build up a system inventory. To prevent interrupting this 
process, wait approximately 5 minutes after upgrading the software to 
perform any other actions on the TimeHub.
