Chapter 4  Testing and Configuring the TimeHub
Provisioning the NTP Parameters

1. Establish a serial connection to the TimeHub shelf using the procedures in 

Communicating by Serial Port

, on page 149.

2. Use the following example commands to provision the Port A parameters:

ED-EQPT::S0-OUTA:CTAG:::PPAIP=<ip_address>;

ED-EQPT::S0-OUTA:CTAG:::PPAMASK=<subnet_mask>;

ED-EQPT::S0-OUTA:CTAG:::PPAGATE=<gate_address>;

3. Use the following example commands to provision the Port B parameters:

ED-EQPT::S0-OUTA:CTAG:::PPBIP=<ip_address>;

ED-EQPT::S0-OUTA:CTAG:::PPBMASK=<subnet_mask>;

ED-EQPT::S0-OUTA:CTAG:::PPBGATE=<gate_address>;

4. Issue the following command to apply the changes:

ED-EQPT::S0-OUTA:CTAG:::NTPPAIR=APPLYCFG;

Provisioning the Bonding Parameters

The term 

port bonding

 refers to the redundancy between two NTP ports on a single 

NTP Server card. When the two ports are bonded, they share the same IP address. 
You only need to provision the Port A IP address when you are using port bonding.

To enable port bonding, issue the following commands:

ED-EQPT::S0-OUTA:CTAG:::BONDMODE=ACTSTBY;

ED-EQPT::S0-OUTA:CTAG:::NTPPAIR=APPLYCFG;

To disable port bonding, issue the following commands:

ED-EQPT::S0-OUTA:CTAG:::BONDMODE=NOBOND;

ED-EQPT::S0-OUTA:CTAG:::NTPPAIR=APPLYCFG;

Provisioning for Client/Server Mode

A TimeHub NTP Server card can be a client only if it is not a primary server. In the 
client role, the NTP Server card can request time service from up to eight peer NTP 
servers. The secondary NTP Server card “assembles” the TOD using the 
timestamps from the external peer NTP servers. In order to communicate with peer 
NTP servers, the TimeHub NTP Server card needs to know their IP addresses and 
share their authentication MD5 key IDs, if authentication is used.

To provision the NTP Server card to Client mode, issue the following commands:

ED-EQPT::S0-OUTA:CTAG:::SVRIP1=<server ip address>;

ED-EQPT::S0-OUTA:CTAG:::TSSTATE=DISABLED;

ED-EQPT::S0-OUTA:CTAG:::NTPPAIR=APPLYCFG;
