SDLC
Synchronous Data Link Control.

housings or Flexport interfaces.
Secondary printer
Network printer where printing
requests made at a bedside or
central are sent to if a primary
printer is busy.

SMA
Shared Memory ASIC
SRAM
Static RAM (CMOS RAM)
SSID
Service Set Identifier. A sequence
of characters attached to all
packets on a wireless network to
identify each packet as part of
that network.
Stop bits
Quantity of bits used to
discontinue transfer block in serial
communications.
Subnet Mask
Part of an IP address that is
allocated for a subnetwork.
Subnet Name
Unique subnetwork name
identifying logically separated
networks.
SuperCap
A type of capacitor

to enable purchased options.
Tap block plug
Dummy plug used to seal up an
unused hole tapped into a coaxial
cable on an Ethernet system.
Tap block
Device used to “tap” into an active
or inactive Ethernet coax cable.
TCP/IP
Transmission Control Protocol/
Internet Protocol used as an
underlying mechanism for moving
packets of information between
different machines on a local or
wide-area network.
TFT
Thin-film transistor; a technology
used in liquid crystal displays
TLB
Translation Lookaside Buffer
Terminator
A resistive load attached to each
end of a coaxial cable segment,
or at a single end of an SDLC line.
The function of a terminator is to
match the characteristic
impedance of the cable.
Transceiver (Ethernet)
Device located on coax cable or
line powered attaching monitors
to the network. These devices are
bi-directional.
TTL
Time to live. The allowed number
of hops the IP packet can take
across network devices.
TXD (Transmit Data)
Transmit Data. Used in
communications protocols.
UART
Universal Asynchronous
Receiver/Transmitter; a microchip
that controls the computer's
interface to its attached serial
devices
UPS
Uninterruptible Power Supply.
Used to hold power up until AC
mains are restored.
USB
Universal Serial Bus
UUT
Unit Under Test
VBA
Video Bus Array
VBB
Lithium Voltage Battery Backup
VPP
Voltage used for programming
devices
