6) When the test has completed, release the
Test
button (or footswitch) on the power

Using the Baker PP24 single-phase lead power pack
When using a power pack with single-phase test leads, switch the leads according to the
following table to surge test different motor leads. Repeat the steps outlined in the previous
section to test each phase.

Combining Baker AWA-IV host and power pack tests
To completely test a large motor, functions from both the Baker AWA-IV and the power pack
are used together. The Baker AWA-IV is used to perform the winding resistance, Meg-Ohm,
and PI tests. The power pack is used to perform the HiPot and Surge tests. The test data
collected by both instruments is then combined into a single test record in the database.
For this example, a 4,160-volt 300-RPM motor will be tested at 4,000 volts for the meg-
Ohm/PI test and 9300 volts for the HiPot and Surge test. Both a new Motor ID and a new
Test ID will be created.
Because this is a large slow motor, the 12kV Baker AWA-IV by itself will not be able to reach
the 9300 V Surge test voltage, so the power pack will have to be used. Although the Baker
AWA-IV can perform the 9300 V hipot test, we will set up the power pack to perform that test
as well.
Briefly, the procedure will be to:
• Create a new Motor ID.
• Create a new Test ID.
• Set up the Test ID for the test voltages above.
• Perform the tests with the Baker AWA-IV doing the resistance, meg-Ohm/PI tests,
and the power pack doing the hipot and surge tests.
