Phone System Migration

Overview

The BMUX firefighter master phone may be replaced by the 4100-1270 “Master telephone and
Phone Card” (replacement of the BMUX firefighter master phone is not mandatory). The 4100U/
4100ES phone card is configured to generate a phone riser for distribution to the 2120
transponders.

The 2120's phone system consisted of a master telephone, audio transponders, telephone jacks,
portable phones and phone stations. The master telephone was mounted in a SCC cabinet adjacent
to the BMUX or sometimes in the BMUX cabinet itself. A local BT monitor point was used to
report a phone riser trouble. A supervised control point was used to detect when a remote phone is
off-hook and to connect the phone to the common-talk phone riser. The SCC indicated phone
circuit trouble and active status, and provided circuit control switches. For more information on
the 2120 phone system, see the

2120 Multiplex Firefighter's Phone General Information Guide

(575-588)

the 4100U/4100ES Phone Riser is electrically compatible with the 2120 phone riser, the

BMUX phone replacement is straightforward. The phone handsets and remote stations used in
2120 systems is the same as those used in the 4100U/4100ES.

With the exception of the End-of-line resistor, no changes are required to the 4100U/4100ES
phone card hardware or firmware to support a 2120 phone riser.

The phone to speaker paging feature of the 2120 is not supported; this feature is not Agency
Listed.

For more information on the phone system upgrades, see the

2120 BMUX to 4100U Migration

Guide

(579-824). The information also applies to the 4100ES.

.
