6.3

Description of the operating functions

This sub-section provides relevant additional information on communication and certain

parameters. Certain parameters require background knowledge which is provided here by

graphics and/ or examples.

6.3.1

Operating functions through HART communication

Prerequisite

You can operate the pressure transmitter through HART communication. The following is

required for this purpose:

●

A HART communicator or PC software such as SIMATIC PDM.

●

A HART modem to connect the PC to the pressure transmitter, or a HART communicator.

Introduction

The full functionality of the pressure transmitter is available via HART communication. The

HART communicator and PC software are not supplied with the pressure transmitter. How to

connect and operate a HART communicator or the PC software is described in separate

operating instructions or in the online help for both these tools.

Fundamental description

The output signal is provided in the form of digital information in the following variables

through HART communication:

●

Pressure

●

Level

●

Volume

●

Mass

●

Volume flow

●

Mass flow

●

A "User characteristic" to which parameters can be freely assigned

As soon as you have set up the HART communication and the pressure transmitter, you can

adapt the pressure transmitter to your relevant measuring task. In doing so, you can support

the selectable measurement types "pressure", "level", "mass", volume", "volume flow", "mass

flow" and "user characteristic". One or more device variables are permanently allocated to

each measuring mode in order to execute corresponding measuring tasks.
