The speaker knob (#8) controls the volume that you hear in the control room

Note: there is no volume control for the volume of your voice to the participant – please
manually adjust your voice volume if need be

Using Active Noise Cancellation

1.

Only proceed to the below steps if you are using the active noise cancelling (ANC)
feature

2.

Press “Start” then “Calibrate” – you should get two green check shields – participant
must be inside the bore during this step and no sound should be playing

3.

When you are ready to calibrate for your BOLD runs, press the red “ANC” button in the
top right corner

4.

Unplug the audio cable – this eliminates the possibility of accidentally transmitting
sounds during the calibration step

5.

Press “Learn” then start your calibration scan – this takes 16 sec – it is very important to
not transmit any auditory stimuli/movie during the learn mode

6.

NOTE: if you remove you participant from the bore for any reason you will need to
repeat steps 2-5

7.

You are now ready to start your task
