MAINTENANCE
For optimum performance from your machine, follow
this maintenance schedule and refer to any specific
instructions given in this section.
Before & During Operation:
• Loose mounting bolts.
•
Damaged, excessively worn, or clogged sandpaper.
•
Worn or damaged switch or wires.
• Excessive dust build-up.
• Efficiency of the dust collection system.
•
Any other unsafe condition.
General

Cleaning the Model W1838 is relatively easy. Vacuum excess
wood chips and sawdust, and wipe off the remaining dust
with a dry cloth. If any resin has built up, use a resin-
dissolving cleaner to remove it.
Cleaning.&.Protecting
Lubrication
Extended use and sawdust can build up in sleeve bearings,
which cause wear. Use a high pressure oil can to lubricate
the sleeve bearing with 30 WT oil after every 10 hours
of operation. No other lubrication is necessary for this
machine.
To lubricate sleeve bearings, do these steps:
1. DISCONNECT MACHINE FROM POWER!
2. Remove sanding belt cover and sanding belt.
3. Apply two or three drops of oil in hole at end of idler
pulley (see
Figure
22
).
4. Wipe off any residual oil.
Note:
DO NOT apply extra oil. Too much oil can
cause the belt to slip.
