WARNING
Windshield
A PARTIALLY LOWERED AND LOOSE ANCHOR CAN CAUSE
CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE TO THE HULL. DO NOT USE A
WINDLASS AS A SOLE MEANS OF SECURING AN ANCHOR IN
THE BOW PULPIT. ALWAYS SECURE THE ANCHOR LINE TO A
CLEAT OR CHAIN BINDER BEFORE OPERATING YOUR BOAT.
Windshield
The 245 Abaco is equipped with a heavy duty
aluminum windshield with tinted glass. The side
wing panels and front panels are tempered safety
glass. The welded aluminum windshield frame is
made of anodized aluminum. Anodized aluminum
is very durable and provides excellent protection
for aluminum, however it must be maintained
properly and certain precautions must be ob-
served when mounting snaps or hardware to the
windshield.
The windshield should be washed after each use
with soap and water to keep it clean. Saltwater
allowed to remain on anodized aluminum will
eventually penetrate the coating and attack the
aluminum, usually around fasteners and hardware
mounted to the aluminum. Snaps or any hard-
ware mounted to the windshield must be properly
sealed and isolated with fiber washers and caulk
or a teflon sealer to prevent salty moisture and
galvanic corrosion from damaging the anodizing
and the aluminum frame. Poor maintenance or
improperly mounted hardware and snaps can void
the warranty on the windshield.

9.2 Hull
Engine Mounting System
Your Scout is equipped with an engine mounting
system that is integrated into the hull and stringer
system and designed to equally distribute the
stresses of engine weight and thrust throughout
the entire hull.
The design of the engine mounting system re-
quires the stern seat and wave gate be in the
folded or down position before tilting an engine
to the full up or trailering position. If the stern
seat and wave gate is in the up position when the
engine is tilted, the cowling will hit the wave gate

causing damage to the engine cowling and to the
wave gate. Always make sure the stern seat and
wave gate is down before tilting an engine and
returned to the up position before operating the
boat.
Swim Platform and Ladder
Dual swim platforms with a built in ladder and
maintenance free, synthetic teak inserts are
standard equipment on the your Abaco. A tele-
scopic boarding ladder is recessed into the port
swim platform. A hand rail is mounted to the
transom near the ladder to provide a handhold
while boarding.
