emergency unlocking triangular key. When the emergency unlocking is operated, the
safety system is activated disabling normal operation and the manual electrical brake
lifting (PEBO) operation. By opening the safety chain, the machine brake is
powerless/closed and the system is in a safe state.
Inspection
Operation
To move the car in inspection operation, the metal bolts must be in the fully extended
position. Refer to the figure of paragraph "TSD21 Device (Temporary Safety Device)
Hardware Description".
Emergency
Electrical Operation
(recall)
Emergency electrical operation is only possible if the safety system is not activated and
the movable bolts are in the fully retracted position.
Manual Electrical

TSD21 - Safe Access to Car Top and/or Pit in Case of Limited
Refuge Space per EN 81-1 and EN 81-20
EN81-20/50 requires a permanent refuge space for maintenance purpose in the end
positions of the elevator hoistway. In installations where the permanent refuge space
can not be fulfilled due to reduced headroom and/or pit, the required permanent refuge
space is ensured by a Temporary Safety Device TSD21 in line with EN81-21.
These installations equipped with a type approved TSD21 system, the refuge space in
the end positions is ensured by additional safety measures with safe access to car top
and/or pit.

TSD21 General Overview
3.9.1.1
TSD21 System Description
The TSD21 system consists of:
–
A monitoring of the manual opening of any door giving access to the car roof and/or
the pit
–
Movable bolts are located below the car and operated by a lever on the car roof,
where the lever position also acts as indicator of the bolt position
–
Buffered stops mounted on the guide rails
–
Limit switches operated immediately before the bolts hit the buffered stops
–
A control system managing the travel of the car and the resetting of the system
–
A reset button which can be locked with a padlock
–
In case of reduced bottom clearances, lamps in the pit indicating the active and
passive position of the movable bolts
–
In case of reduced bottom clearances, a retractable apron
The control unit of the elevator manages the required functionalities according to EN 81-
21 by using PCBA SPHRBX, which contains a safety circuit according EN 81-20.
The manual opening of any landing door (KNETs), the retracted position of the movable
bolts (KSR-A), if the balustrade (if any) is retracted (KBC-A/KFB) are monitored, which
are parts of the safety circuit.
