Dolby 3 Stereo
A Listening Mode menu option in which sound is broadcast through the left and
right front speakers and the center speaker.
Dynamic Range Compression
An optional sound setting that tones down the volume of the loudest sounds and
optimizes the quieter sounds, such as dialogue.
HDTV (high definition television)
High definition television has a resolution of approximately twice that of conven-
tional television in both the horizontal (H) and vertical (V) dimensions and a picture
aspect ratio (H x V) of 16:9.
I-Point Control
The I-Point control is located in the center of the remote control. It acts like a
"joystick" to move the yellow on-screen pointer up or down, or to the left or right.
When you move the on-screen pointer over an icon or menu selection, they are
highlighted, changing them from blue to red. The I-Point control is also used to
cycle through menu settings on some menus and make value adjustments.
Major and Minor Channels
A “major” channel is a group of channels belonging to a broadcast corporation. For
example, the XYZ Broadcasting Corporation may broadcast three different chan-
nels: XYZ-1, XYZ-2 and XYZ-3. Therefore, XYZ would be the major channel, and
XYZ-1, XYZ-2 and XYZ-3 would be the minor channels. Information on the major
channel is listed in the on-screen Program Guide. Information on the minor chan-
nels is listed in the on-screen Channel Guide.
Multitrack
Multitrack is a menu option for both analog and digital channels. For analog
channels, you may choose between three sound settings: stereo, mono or secondary
(secondary audio programming). For digital channels, you may choose in which
language you wish to hear audio tracks. Different language options may not be
available for all broadcasts.
Panorama
A Select Picture Size menu option that allows the HDTV to mimic the display of a
widescreen format (16:9 aspect ratio) when displaying programs that are broadcast
in the normal picture size (4:3 aspect ratio).
Phantom Center
Simulates the sound from the center speaker using the left and right speakers.
Program Guide
Supplies information such as major channel program listings and start times.
Secondary Audio Programming
Some analog channels broadcast certain programs with a second audio track. This
second track may contain a translation of the first audio track into another language.
The Secondary Audio Programming option is available for analog channels only
and is set through the Select Multitrack menu. Digital signals are not limited to two
audio tracks; if a digital channel broadcasts a program in five different languages,
