12 Operation: Using a PC to transmit and receive data
!
Your Personal Computer is directly connected to the TELSAT GPRS via its RS-232
port or its USB port. Make sure that you have installed the modem driver of the
TELSAT GPRS (see, page 40). When you connect your PC to the USB port, then
the RS-232 port is switched off.
!
The TELSAT GPRS is functioning like a GSM modem. The called party can be a
GSM modem or a fixed network modem.
If the called party’s modem is connected to the fixed network, it must support
9600 bps (V.32) / V.42 for the connection into the fixed network. This is necessary
for the communication to the GSM network.
!
To use the GSM modem functions of the TELSAT GPRS for data communication
you can use any terminal program, e. g.
HyperTerminal
.
Like an analogue modem the TELSAT GPRS is controlled by AT commands. You
will find a list of the AT commands on page 63.
!
By default an incoming data call comes in at the
PC
port of the TELSAT GPRS, so
that a device connected to this port gets the call. If you want to receive data calls by
a modem connected eg. to the
Fax/Modem/Phone
port connected of TELSAT
GPRS, you have to make the corresponding setting. See Select Port for Data Calls,
page 32.
Data
communication
with a terminal
program
On the computer start any terminal program which you normally
use for data transfer, e.g.
HyperTerminal
.
To set up the connection you have to know:
•
the telephone number of the remote party
•
TELSAT GPRS
is the device for making the connection.
•
Be sure that the following connection settings are enabled:
Transmission speed:
57,600 bps
Data bits:
8
Parity: N
(none)
Stop bits:
1
You can either control the GSM-Gateway directly using AT
commands (see page 63) or perform the functions via menu
commands of your Terminal program (e. g. HyperTerminal).
Where not specified otherwise the commands are executed on
accordance with the V.25ter convention.
