15 Troubleshooting
The most frequent problems and how correct them, are described below.
15.1 It is not possible to enter programming mode
Check the following:
•
Is SIM card mounted and PIN code correctly programmed?
•
Is there external power to EC II GSM SE?
•
Is the fuse F1 broken?
15.2 EC II GSM SE does not make an alarm call
Check the following:
•
Is there GSM network coverage in the lift shaft? Use the SMS function to check the
signal strength at section 9.3 above
•
Are both an
alarm receiver
and an
alarm code
programmed?
15.3 EC II GSM SE calls up automatically at power on
The lift phone’s alarm button has closing function but EC II GSM SE is programmed for an
alarm button with breaking function (or vice versa). Enter programming mode and select cor-
rect type of alarm button. See section 8.3.3 above
.
15.4 Whistling sound from loudspeaker at alarm sequence
If there is a whistling sound, when voice communications is set up during an alarm, this may
be due to acoustic feedback. Acoustic feedback may appear if the microphone and the loud-
speaker are installed too close to a flat surface, causing the sound to rebound between them.
See section 6.2 above
.
15.5 Disturbances during voice communications
There may be problems with GSM coverage in the lift shaft. Try to move central unit or mount
it standing to improve the position of the antenna. Another type of antenna might possibly be
used. In worst case the GSM covering so bad that a fixed telephone line must be used. Con-
tact your local distributor or Rocom GmbH for more information.
15.5.1 Battery alarm
EC II GSM SE has a very advanced battery test and if a battery alarm is made the battery is
bad or not connected. At a battery replacement the switch S1 must be pressed, or else the
EC II GSM SE will continue to send battery alarms every 3:rd day until a new battery test is
done. A battery reset can also be done with an SMS. Read more under section 9.6 above
.
Please note that a bad battery normally cannot be detected only by measuring the battery
voltage with an instrument. The battery must instead be discharged over a longer period of
time to have certain information about the capacity, which is done in the automatic battery
test. If batteries of not recommended types is used it might result in false battery alarms since
the battery test is adapted after a certain type of battery.
If the fuse F2 is broken the product will also generate a battery alarm. Note that the battery
life time can be reduced it the lift phone is mounted in warm environments.
