Chapter 6 Safety Functions

Safety Reaction Time

The safety reaction time is the length of time from a safety-related event as
input to the system until the system is in the safe state.

Table 19 on page 86

shows the safety reaction time from an input signal condition that triggers a
safe stop, to the initiation of the configured Stop Type. For details on how to
calculate system reaction times with GuardLogix controllers, see the
GuardLogix Controller Systems Safety Reference Manuals that are listed in the

Additional Resources on page 13

A number of factors influence the safety reaction time, including the
configuration of the safety I/O on your device and the configuration of your
safety controller. These factors include:
