SECTION 3: CRITICAL CONSIDERATIONS
3.1 Basic Information
Cabinet heaters are s u pplied w ith b u rners s u itable
for on/off operation as standard. As an option, t w o-
stage (High/Lo w ) operation is a v ailable for gas and
oil-fired b u rners.
3.2 Location and Suspension
All models:
• M u st be installed indoors w ithin the heated
space. Special v ersions are a v ailable for installa-
tion o u tdoors.
• M u st be installed for floor standing v ertical
installation.
• M u st be installed in a manner w hich allo w s all
the u pper panels and either of the lo w er side
panels to be remo v ed to pro v ide access to all
ser v iceable components.
• M u st be placed on a firm, le v el, non-comb u stible
s u rface that can s u pport its w eight.

• Special v ersions s u pplied w ith steel channels to
s u pport the heater are a v ailable and may be
mo u nted horizontally. When installed horizon-
tally, the heater w ill normally lie on its left side
w hen v ie w ed from the b u rner. The same clear-
ances and comments on panels m u st be u sed,
except for the side the heater lies on.
3.3 Re q uired Clearances to Combustibles
Clearances are the req u ired distances that
comb u stible objects m u st be a w ay from the heater
to pre v ent fire hazards. Ca u tion sho u ld be u sed
w hen r u nning the system near comb u stibles.
Comb u stibles are materials, w hich may catch on fire
and incl u de common items s u ch as w ood, paper,
r u bber, fabric, etc. Maintain clearances to
combustibles at all times for safety.
Clearances aro u nd the heater and fl u e m u st be as
indicated on Page 6, Figure 2 to ens u re access for
ser v icing, and correct operation. If clearances to
comb u stibles are not indicated, then installation
clearances apply.
Check the clearances on each heater for the model
heater being installed to make s
u re the prod u ct is
s u itable for yo u r application and the clearances are
maintained. Read and follo w the safety g u idelines
belo w :
• Keep petrol or other comb u stible materials
incl u ding flammable objects, liq u ids, d u st or
v apo u rs a w ay from this heater or any other appli-
ance.
• Do not spray aerosols in the v icinity of this appli-
ance.
• The stated clearances to comb u stibles repre-
sents a s u rface temperat u re of 50° C (90° F)
abo v e room temperat u re. B u ilding materials w ith
a lo w heat tolerance (s u ch as plastics, v inyl sid-
ing, can v as, tri-ply, etc) may be s u bject to degra-
dation at lo w er temperat u res. It is the installer’s
responsibility to ass u re that adjacent materials
are protected from degradation.
• Maintain clearances from heat sensiti v e eq u ip-
ment and w orkstations.
• Maintain clearances from v ehicles parked belo w
the heater.
• Maintain clearances from s w inging and o v er-
head doors, o v erhead cranes, v ehicle lifts, parti-
tions, storage racks, hoists, b u ilding
constr u ction, etc.
• In locations u sed for the storage of comb u stible
materials, signs m u st be posted to specify the
maxim u m permissible stacking height to main-
tain req u ired clearances from the heater to the
comb u stibles. Signs m u st be posted adjacent to
the heater thermostat. In the absence of a ther-
mostat, signs m
u st be posted in a conspic u o u s
location.
• Cons u lt local B u ilding Inspector, Fire Ins u rance
Carrier or other a u thorities for appro v al of pro-
posed installation w hen there is a possibility of
expos u re to comb u stible airborne materials or
v apo u rs.
• Hang heater in accordance to minim u m s u spen-
sion req u irements. Cons u lt man u fact u rer.
• Affix the tag on a w all near the heater.
WARNING
Fire Hazard
Keep all flammable objects, liquids and
vapours the minimum required clearances to
combustibles away from heater.
Some objects will catch fire or explode when
placed close to heater.
Failure to follow these instructions can result
in death, injury or property damage.
