1 .9 InfiniAM Spectral limitations
1 .9 .1 Introduction
InfiniAM Spectral has been designed to provide the optimum viewing experience. However, there are
some limits to the system performance, described below.
1 .9 .2 Using multiple layer thicknesses
It is possible to use more than one layer thickness during a build, e.g. 30 µm and 60 µm. This can be
either as separate parts or using the "Shell" and "Core" functions within QuantAM. Two-dimensional
layers will be correctly displayed. As three-dimensional voxels are produced from five layers, the
intermittent layers may not be correctly visualised in three-dimensional views.
1 .9 .3 Multi-laser only – crossing lasers
Each MeltVIEW sensor has a field-of-view of 6.3 mm and 2.6 mm in diameter. It is possible that a
single sensor detects the reflected light from more than one laser melt-pool. This will happen if two
lasers come within close proximity of each other. This will result in a higher intensity reading, which
could be interpreted as a defect.
1 .9 .4 Multi-laser only – intensity
During commissioning, the intensity of each laser’s MeltVIEW sensors will be cross-referenced to
the other lasers to ensure that feedback from all the lasers has the same mean intensity. It is normal
for slight differences in intensity between lasers to remain, particularly if the histogram is adjusted to
exaggerate the display sensitivity.
