• GrainVac wheels are chocked, and, if necessary, tractor wheels are chocked or the
parking brake has been engaged.
• Air throttle rotates freely.
• Know how to safely shut down the GrainVac in an emergency. Refer to Section
4.9.2. on page 48.
Note: Oil the auger drive chain daily.
4.3. GrainVac Lockout
Important: If shear bolt fails, shut down and lock out tractor to replace bolt. Follow instructions in
Section 5.4.1. Shear Bolt – Replacement on page 52.
Note: Spare shear bolts are located below the inlet.
The GrainVac uses a Bolt - Hex 5/16” - 18 UNC x 1-5/8” Gr 5 Plated (Part #: P0115120)
through the inner hub. This bolt is fastened with a Nut Nylock Jam 5/16” Gr 5 (Part #:
P0137110).
Before maintaining, adjusting, or unplugging the GrainVac, place all
the controls in neutral, turn off the PTO, set the park brake, stop the
engine, remove the ignition key, and wait for all the moving parts to
stop.
If the GrainVac becomes plugged during operation, see Section 8. Troubleshooting on
page 91.
4.4. Machine Break-In
When using the GrainVac for the first time, it is recommended that the following
mechanical items be checked:
1. Before starting or pre-delivery inspection:
a. Read the Operation Manual.
2. After operating 10 hours:
a. Stop the GrainVac and lock out the power unit before checking the drum, rotors,
gearbox, and drive chain tension.
b. Refer to Section 5.2. Maintenance Schedule on page 50.
3. After operating 40 hours:
a. Check wear on rotors and wear wraps (see Section 5.4.9. on page 63).
4. After operating 100 hours:
a. Change the oil in the gearbox (refer to Section 5.4.16. Gearbox – Maintenance
Instructions on page 69).
b. Refer to Section 5.2. Maintenance Schedule on page 50.
Once the GrainVac is broken in, the Pre-Operational Checklist (page 31) should be part
of the daily routine before operating.
