4.3.3 Clean up used COM-Port numbers
The USB driver of the weather station creates a virtual COM
port for reading the data from the weather station.
There may be already many unused but reserved (virtual) COM
ports listed in your system so there may be numbers of 20, 30 or
higher. This happens when often connecting different USB devices
to the computer installing drivers creating a virtual COM port.
On the right you see an example of a system with many reserved
COM ports.
You can clean up these reserved port numbers with a little change
in the registry.
To perform you start the registry editor by pressing the
WINDOWS KEY + R and then type
regedit
and press OK.
In the next window you choose
YES
.
In the Registry editor you navigate to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\COM Name Arbiter
and right click on
ComDB
and choose
modify
