10. Aerobatics with a model helicopter
Aerobatics with a remote-controlled model helicopter is one of the most difficult skills to master with model aircraft.
Before you venture to tackle aerobatics such as rolls, loops or inverted flight, you must be able to get your helicopter
out of any flying position and into a normal flying position almost without needing to think about it.
If you cannot yet do this, every attempt at aerobatics will sooner or later end in the inevitable
crash.
So-called model flight simulators provide good training. With these, you can try out the control reactions of the model
in the most varied flight positions on the computer without causing any damage.
a) Technical requirements for inverted flight
Both the speed of the electric motor and the incline angle of the rotor blades are controlled by the gas / pitch function
control lever. The corresponding assignment of control values and mixing of the signals takes place in the transmitter.
Note!
As you can see in the table, the bottom position of the gas / pitch control lever not only changes the
incline angle of the rotor blades. As soon as you operate the toggle switch for inverted flight, the main
rotor starts up right away independent of the position of the gas / pitch function control lever .
For this reason, a toggle switch should never be operated when the helicopter is on the ground with its
rotors are stationary!

(*) this setting is intended for 3D operation.
If you had set the lever middle setting to +4°, the
helicopter would rapidly lose height when switching
flight modes.
For beginners who would like to learn how to hover,
the lever middle setting to +4° is recommended. The
helicopter will then hover at around the middle setting
of the control lever travel and thus offers a fairly even
travel of the gas / pitch lever.
