Installation Summary
There are four basic steps to installing the RAYCOM Cellular properly. These
steps are summarized below and explained in detail in the remainder of this
manual.
Step 1. Choose an Antenna and its Location
• The type of antenna and its location can be one of the
biggest factors in your installation. Height, gain, obstruc-
tions, and the correct antenna cable and length can all
affect reception and operation.
Step 2. Choose an Installation Location and Make
the Cable Runs
• The RAYCOM unit is not waterproof and needs to be
mounted where it will not be exposed to splash or
spray. Below decks or behind a console is recom-
mended.
• Try to find a location that is close to the DC power
buss to minimize the length of the power cable.
• If more than one piece of phone equipment will be
connected, try to select a central location to reduce
the length of the cable runs.
• There should be adequate ventilation.
• It should be as far apart as possible from any devices
that may induce interference such as motors, generators, etc.
Step 3. Phone Number Setup
• If you did not have your RAYCOM programmed with a cellular phone num-
ber at your place of purchase, you need to contact your preferred Cellular
Service Provider for activation or you may contact American Wireless.
American Wireless can provide you with your cellular phone number, assist
you with the programming, and provide operational support if you choose
to be one of their subscribers.
• Your RAYCOM can be programmed using any standard household tele-
phone, also known as a POTS (Plain Old Telephone System) telephone.
Step 4. Installation and Connection
• Once all your cables are run and you have installed your phone equipment,
it is time to install the RAYCOM itself. Connect the power, antenna, and
phone equipment before final mounting of the unit.
