2.4 Folding/unfolding the wheelchair
The model TEKNA TILT adult / TEKNA TILT junior has a crossbar system folding seat and folding
backrest.
The two movements are independent.
Before using the wheelchair, always check the seat is correctly open, the
backrest tubes are locked and the handle bar is locked.
The examples hereafter reported refer to a wheelchair equipped with a postural system
(rigid backrest, headrest and cushion). In its standard configuration, the wheelchair is
not provided with the postural system.
While folding/unfolding the wheelchair, be careful not to squeeze your fingers between
the seat tube and the supports, between the seat tube and the frame tube, or between
the backrest tube and the armrest.
OPENING
Opening the backrest
Take hold of the backrest tube’s handle grip and pull it up to its upright position.
A click will indicate the backrest tube is locked.
Carry out the same operation for both tubes.
It is possible to unfold the backrest tubes when the seat is folded as well as when it is open.
When the seat is folded and in presence of rigid backrest supports, there may be interference with
the seat tubes. In such case, remove the armrests, take hold, with one hand, the seat tubes in
order to keep them close together, then, with your other hand, take hold of one backrest tube, pull it
outwardly and up as much as it is necessary to let it pass over the seat tube. Carry out the same
operation for both tubes. Finally, pull the tubes up until the lock in their upright position.
When the seat is open, the possible supports of the rigid backrest may create interference with the
seat tubes. In such case, remove the armrests.
Carefully check each backrest tube is locked (the hook C must be properly inserted).
In order to check whether the backrest is correctly open, take hold of the front frame with one
hand, the backrest’s handle grip with the other and try to move the backrest tube frontward and
backward.
When correctly locked, the backrest tube will allow just a little play.
Make the same check for both tubes.
Opening the seat
You can open the seat only if the backrests tubes are in their upright position.
Lean your hands’ palms on the seat tubes, positions A and B, and push them down until the
complete opening of the wheelchair.
