4 TRASPORT OF THE WHEELCHAIR
There is no single best way to load the wheelchair in a vehicle.
The person who will load the wheelchair and the kind of vehicle that will be used are all factors.
It is clear that all this factors are too many to give a single precise procedure to fit all cases,
therefore this information has to be taken as general advices.
Perform all car loading activities with extreme care in order to prevent any
damage to the wheelchair or any of its parts.
Never transport in a vehicle an occupant sitted on the wheelchair as these
wheelchairs are not designed for this kind of use.
If the occupant has to be transported while seated on the wheelchair you are
reminded that the wheelchairs are not supplied with seatbelts. Any safety
belts for vehicle transport must be installed only by companies that are
specialized in vehicles transformations.
The lightness and reducibility of this model are very important because they allow the
wheelchair to be moved easily as well as to be located even in small spaces.
The following examples refer to a wheelchair that is equipped with a postural system
(rigid backrest, headrest and cushion).
Should the backrest of the wheelchair be of the kind with canvas/upholstery, most
operation would result easier and quicker.
Tilt the seat to its minimum inclination.
Remove the rigid backrest, the cushion and the armrests.
Fold the wheelchair (crossbar and backrest).
In order to make the wheelchair even smaller and lighter, you can remove the rear wheels
(release the brakes first).
Take hold of the chair with one hand on the front frame and the other hand on the rear side of
the wheelchair to balance the weight of the wheelchair and make lifting it easier.
Load the wheelchair into the car and then all the removed parts.
Following the same procedure and thanks to its reduced encumbrance when folded, the
wheelchair can be loaded in the boot of the car or between the front and rear seats.
With larger vehicles, the wheelchair can be loaded without folding the seat, but just the backrest.
