Data acquisition and storage for the TMS-350 is fully controlled via the
software. A live video image of the object is displayed on the monitor and you
can set up the area of interest on this video image. All acquisition properties
are set in the software. For evaluation, the acquired data is overlaid directly
onto recorded video image.

Making a Measurement with the Instrument
INFORMATION
After being switched on, the interferometer is ready to use straight away. In
the case of high-precision measurements, the accuracy of the measurement
results depends on the measurement duration. If the measurement duration is
being made over a long time, take the occurrence of long-term drift while the
interferometer warms up into consideration (refer to specifications in
Switch on
To make a measurement, proceed as follows:
1. Switch the controller on by turning the key switch to position I.
The POWER indicator lights up on the front of the controller. Providing
all connecting cables are installed correctly, the light in the
interferometer lights up.
2. Switch on the PC by bringing the mains switch on the back to position I
and press the POWER key on the front.
Object align
3. First of all, position the object so that the AOI is approximately aligned
towards the beam exit window.
4. Now set the parallel plate to be at the right measurement distance. The
distance from the beam exit window must be approx. 40 mm (refer also to
You have to find the interferences to determine the correct measurement
distance. To do so, proceed as follows:
5. Start the TMS software.
INFORMATION
Ensure that all instruments are switched on before you start the
TMS software.
After starting the software, the measurement window appears in the
application window and the reference mirror is positioned in the middle
of the range of travel.
6. You can see the live video image. If the image is too dark or too bright,
adjust the exposure time as described in your software manual.
7. Set the precise measurement distance (approx. 40 mm), by slowly
changing the distance between the interferometer and the object until the
interferences are visible in the software. Refer to your software manual. A
good indicator of the correct distance between interferometer and object
can be the sharpness of the video image: if the object is shown in sharp
focus, then you are in the range in which interferences can occur.
