FACTORY DEFAULT SETTINGS
As the Allegiant system is shipped from the factory,
certain features are placed in a default configuration.
Some of these features can be selected by the
installer at the time of system
installation/configuration. Generally the default
configuration represents the simplest mode of
operation, allowing the user to become familiar with
the system before any advanced features are
selected. These default settings are described below
for reference.
User Selectable DIP Switch Settings
For Main CPU Bay
NOTE:
AFTER CHANGING ANY OF THE
FOLLOWING SWITCHES, THE SYSTEM MUST
EITHER BE POWERED OFF AND ON BY THE
MAIN POWER SWITCH OR RESET USING THE
KEYBOARD USER FUNCTION 15 (REFER TO
LATER SECTION).
System CPU modules contain two 8 position DIP
switches (S1001 & S1002 on TC8511C CPUs; S100
& S101 on all other CPUs). The functions assigned
to the upper DIP switch (S1001 or S100) are
reserved for certain accessory products and all
settings should be left in the OFF position. The
options assigned to the lower 8 position DIP switch
are as follows:

Switch 1
This switch is not used in the TC8500, TC8600, and
TC8800 systems and should be left off.
Switch 2
If switch 2 is turned on, the Alarm port on the rear of
the main Allegiant bay is configured as an auxiliary
Console port. This allows the Alarm port (in addition
to the regular Console port) to communicate with the
optional TC8850 Graphical User Interface software
package, or the optional TC8x59 Master Control
Software running on a PC. The port can also be used
to control the Allegiant system via the Console
Command Language (documented in the optional
CCL manual). The normal Console port and the
Alarm port (when switch 2 is on) may be used to
control the Allegiant system simultaneously.
Communications parameters (baud & handshake) for
the Alarm port can be set using Keyboard User
Function 32 (covered later in this manual), with the
optional TC8850 Graphical User Interface software
package, or with the optional TC8x59 Master Control
Software.
Note that the pin-out of the Alarm port differs from
that of the Console port, so the cable supplied with
the optional TC8850 Graphical User Interface
software package, or the optional TC8x59 Master
Control Software package can not be used when
interfacing with the Alarm port. If necessary, refer to
the Appendix section of this manual for the Alarm
port pinouts.
Switch 3
Note that this switch setting is ignored if DIP
switch 7 (described below) is set to ON.
With a
TC8500 or TC8600 system, the CPU will
communicate with the system keyboards using a
"four poll byte" protocol when this switch is off; when
it is on, the keyboard communication will use an
"eight poll byte" protocol. For TC8800 systems, the
settings are reversed: eight poll bytes when off, four
poll bytes when on. An older keyboard with part
number TC8550KB must use the four poll byte
protocol; a keyboard with part number TC8550KB-8
must use the eight poll byte protocol. A newer
keyboard marked TC8550, TC8550A,TC8551A,
TC8553, TC8554, or TC8555 can automatically
communicate using either protocol. The system CPU
module must be configured to use a protocol
compatible with the keyboards being used. The
TC8500 and TC8600 should normally use the four
poll byte protocol; the TC8800 should normally use
the eight poll byte protocol. If a TC8600 is being
used as a main site to control satellite sites, it should
be set to use the eight byte protocol.
Switch 4
If switch 4 is on, the Printer port on the rear of the
main Allegiant bay is configured as an auxiliary
Console port. See the description of switch 2, above,
for information on using an auxiliary Console port.
The Printer port has the same pin-out as the normal
Console port, so the Console cable supplied with the
optional TC8850 Graphical User Interface software
package, or the optional TC8x59 Master Control
Software package may be used to interface with the
Printer port when switch 4 is on. Communication
parameters (baud & handshake) for the Printer port
can be set using Keyboard User Function 31
(covered later in this manual), with the optional
