STP defines a tree with a root switch and a loop-free path from the root to all
switches in the network. STP forces redundant data paths into a standby state. If a
network segment in the spanning tree fails and a redundant path exists, the
spanning tree algorithm activates the standby path and recalculates the topology.
This page allows you to configure the spanning tree bridge parameters. It consists
of the following fields:
NOTE:
All time values, with the exception of Aging Time, are specified in hundredths
of a second. Aging Time is specified in seconds.

Field
Description
STP Designated
Root
This read-only field indicates the bridge identifier of the root of the
spanning tree as determined by STP.
Priority
This is the bridge priority. It is a decimal number in the range
0–65535 that determines which device becomes the root bridge.
The default value is 32768.
Hello Time
This value determines the frequency with which the switch sends
configuration Bridge Protocol Data Units (BPDUs) when it is the
root of the spanning tree or trying to become so.
Forward Delay
This value determines the frequency with which a port changes its
forwarding status when moving toward the forwarding state. The
value determines how long each port remains in the Listening and
Learning states, which precede the Forwarding state.
Max Age
Specifies maximum age of spanning tree information used by all
bridges when this bridge is acting as a root. When spanning tree
information is received that is older that this maximum age, it is
discarded.
Root Port
This read-only field indicates the port number that offers the lowest
cost path from the switch to the root.
Root Cost
This read-only field indicates the cost of the path from the switch to
the root.
Topology Changes
This read-only field indicates the number of topology changes that
have occurred since the switch has been running.
Aging Time
The timeout period for aging out dynamically learned forwarding
information.
