8.4.3 Information about Slave Units
The following non-KX-NS1000 PBX models can be connected to a One-look network as Slave units:
•
KX-NS300, with up to 3 KX-NS320 expansion units
•
KX-NS500, with up to 3 KX-NS520 expansion units
•
KX-NS700, with up to 3 KX-NS720 expansion units
This section explains the conditions and limitations that apply to these PBX models when they are connected
as Slave units. For details about individual PBXs’ specifications, refer to the documentation for the
corresponding PBX.
Setting up a Slave Unit
If you are connecting a PBX that has not been used before, simply register it as a Slave unit using the Easy
Setup Wizard.
If the PBX has been in operation as a stand-alone unit, do the following:
1.
Back up necessary data, such as activation keys.
2.
Initialise the PBX.
3.
Start up Easy Setup Wizard on the PBX, and set the PBX up as a Slave unit.
4.
On the Add Site Wizard of the Master unit, register the Slave unit.
For more information, refer to "5.5 Programming a One-look Network".
Note
When setting up the Slave unit, data will be re-initialised.
KX-NS series PBXs other than the KX-NS1000 do not support the the slave data converter. Therefore,
back up all necessary data before setting up the Slave unit, and restore the data afterwards.
For details about backing up data and about initialising the PBX, refer to the PC Programming Manual for the
corresponding PBX.
For details about Easy Setup Wizard, refer to the Installation Manual for the corresponding PBX.
Conditions for Slave Units
•
A DSP card must be installed in each Slave unit. For details, refer to the Installation Manual for the
corresponding PBX.
•
An SD card must be installed in a KX-NS300 PBX when it is connected as a Slave unit. If no SD card is
installed, the Slave unit’s PBX MODE LED will flash red.
•
KX-NS300/KX-NS500/KX-NS700 PBXs cannot be specified as the Backup Master unit for One-look
Networking Survivability. See “8.4.2 One-look Networking Survivability”.
•
The major and minor software versions must match between the Master unit and Slave units. When
applying a software update, apply the same version to all PBXs in the One-look network. Major and minor
software versions are as follows:
Software version: XXX.YYYZZ
XXX = Major version
YYY = Minor version
ZZ = revision number
•
Activation keys can be applied freely to Slave units so long as the overall system capacity is not exceeded.
When connecting the unit to a One-look network, reinstall any activation keys being used during
stand-alone operation after the unit has been registered to the Master unit. For details, refer to the
Installation Manual for the corresponding PBX.
•
The number of available MOH and BGM entries differs depending on the PBX model.
•
The number of external pagers that can be connected to each site differs depending on the PBX model.
