TABLE 3. PROTECTION SYSTEM OPTION SETTINGS

Protection Mode

MDIS

Invokes the Manual Disable mode. This keeps the Primary circuit on-
line and inhibits switch-over to the Protection circuit.

MPRO

Invokes the Manual Protect mode to switch to the Protection circuit and
locks the Protection circuit on-line.

APRO*

Invokes the Auto Protect mode in which the Protection line unit monitors
the health of the Primary circuit and forces a switchover to the
Protection circuit when the Primary circuit’s health degrades. System
reverts back to the Primary circuit when the Primary circuits health
improves.

AHLD

Invokes the Auto Hold mode. Same as APRO (above) except
switchover is non-reverting.

These three functions are used together to define the switchover
operation. Maximum switchovers is set to the number of switchovers to
occur within the switch interval time period before the system remains
switched for the lock-in period. (If Lock-in hours is set to 0, the Lock-in
mechanism is disabled.)

* Indicates HLU-232 factory settings. HiGain can be set to these default settings by pressing the SEL button for 6

seconds and then selecting the YES response to the resulting DFLT message.

BER Threshold and BER Measurement Interval are settable on both the Primary and the Protect line units. All other
settings apply only to the Protect line unit. Only the Protection Mode can be set from the front panel buttons on the
Protect line unit. All other Protect line unit settings must be made using an ASCII terminal connected to the front
panel maintenance port.
