2.
R e m o v e the system disc and insert your f o r m a t t e d disc. The data
stored in buffer will now be written onto the backup disc. When all
the data has b e e n written, a message will appear, telling you to
insert source disc i.e. your system disc, so that m o r e data can be
read and stored in the c o m p u t e r buffer.
C A U T I O N m a k e sure both discs are always inserted with the same
side u p p e r m o s t
3.
Y o u do not have to type in the B A C K U P instruction again, just
k e e p alternatively inserting the system and backup discs until a
message informs you that all the system disc data is now on the
backup disc.
4.
R e m o v e the backup disc, label it (system backup) on the
c o r r e c t
side, and store it away together with the system disc.
This completes the 'getting started' part and you have successfully used
two of the D O S functions ( F O R M A T A N D B A C K U P ) .
The next C h a p t e r (5) deals with each of the seventeen D O S functions
individually, describing what each function does, the instruction to be
typed on the k e y b o a r d and any restrictions or constraints regarding the
use of the function. Before you use the microdisc there are one or two
important points you should be aware of regarding disc handling, typing
instructions on the k e y b o a r d , protecting your data, and making
mistakes. These are given in the G e n e r a l Instructions in C h a p t e r 5 and
we r e c o m m e n d you read t h e m thoroughly, they wilt p r o b a b l y save you a
fair a m o u n t of time and trouble later.
Finally:
The i m p o r t a n t thing to r e m e m b e r is not to go too quickly at first just
follow the general instructions and m a k e sure you understand the
function which you are going to use.
If at any time you find that the D O S instructions fail to do what they
should (or even worse, fail to do anything) the first thing to do is r e m o v e
the system disc, then press the R E S E T switch on the rear of the
m a s t e r
disc drive. Next, re-insert the system disc and the D O S will then be
reloaded into the c o m p u t e r .
If you have a power failure whilst a system disc is in the drive unit, it is a
good idea to r e - b a c k u p the system disc, just in case the data has been
corrupted, this does not always h a p p e n but its better to be safe.
