PACKAGING OF THE CUPS
The collection and reference cups are weighed at the same time, the refer-
ence cups are interspersed in the series of cups to be measured. After
adjusting the balance (zero adjustment), each cup is carefully placed on the
tray and its weight is read after stabilization (about 10 to 20 seconds). Gloves
or tongs are recommended for handling. After weighing, the cups are closed
with their respective covers and placed in a suitable box for transport to the
collection site. The reference cups can be placed in the same box or left at
the laboratory, depending on the procedure chosen for handling the cups.
PROCESSING THE CUPS AFTER COLLECTION
After collection, the measurement and reference cups are reconditioned in
the same manner as before. It is however recommended, especially for col-
lections in an atmosphere with a very high relative humidity, to first place the
measurement cups without their covers in an oven at 50 to 60°C for four
hours before conditioning, to quickly remove the excess humidity that the
foam could’ve absorbed. After conditioning, the measurement and reference
cups are measured in the same manner as before and the mass of the col-
lected dust determined according to the following formula:
M = Mm - Mr
in which:
!
Mm
is the difference in weight of the measurement cups from before and
after collection
!
Mr
is the average difference in weight of the reference cups associated
with the measurement cups and weighed in the same manner before and
after collection.
DETERMINATION OF THE CONCENTRATION
The concentration in mg/m3 is determined by the formula:
C mg/m
3
= M in mg
in which:
V in m
3
!
M
is the mass of the dust collected as determined above
!
V
is the volume of the air filtered.
CASE OF SELECTORS
For the

Rand
CIP10 T
, the dust to measure is what’s collected in the
rotating cups; the dust trapped in the selectors is not to be analyzed. It’s gen-
erally the same for the
CIP10 I
. It can sometimes happen with certain dusts
that a light deposit remains on the central cone of the
CIP10 I
, and this
