M

Macro
Close-up photography. (P. 82)

Manual focusing
The act of focusing on a subject manually. With this camera,
press the [FOCUS] button, and set the distance in the manu-
al focus mode.

M Mode
Manual exposure mode. By setting shutter speed, aperture
and so forth yourself, you can be more creative in your pic-
ture-taking than you can in the P mode.

P

PC card adapter
Adapter used to read images stored on a SmartMedia/
CompactFlash with a personal computer. The card is fit inside
the adapter and then the adapter is loaded into the PC's card
slot. After that, images can be read on PC.

P mode
Program AE mode. This is an exposure control mode in
which the camera determines aperture and shutter speed.

R

Red-eye
Phenomenon whereby eyes appear red when a flash is fired
in a dark room. What actually happens is that the pupils are
dilated because of the darkness, so the light of the flash
enters the pupil and reflects off of the cornea. The red color is
from the blood vessels in the cornea. Red-eye occurs espe-
cially with a short optical axis and flash distance. It rarely
occurs when shooting in brightly lit places. With the Camedia
C-2500L's red-eye reducing flash mode or an extension flash,
red-eye can be reduced.

Resolution
Term for expressing image quality. The Camedia C-2500L has
three resolution levels: SQ (standard quality), HQ (high quali-
ty) and SHQ (super high quality), in ascending order of defini-
tion.

S

Sharpness
The degree of clarity in the contour of an image. With the
Camedia C-2500L,  sharpness can be set as SOFT or NOR-
MAL.

SmartMedia
Recording media the size of a stamp and just 0.76 mm thick.
It has a flash memory base and a storage capacity of 2 ~ 32
MB. SmartMedia come in 3.3 V and 5 V types. The Camedia
C-2500L uses the 3.3 V type.

Spot metering
Light metering technique which measures light in only a small
part of the subject. It is best used with subjects of high light-
dark contrast or to measure light in a particular spot only.
In the case of the C-2500L, the camera meters the exposure
within the autofocus mark of the viewfinder.

T

TIFF
Format for saving image data from B/W to color. Data of this
format can be handled by scanner applications and graphic
applications. The Camedia C-2500L uses it to save noncom-
pressed images.

Trimming
Technique by which a photograph is cut to a desired shape or
unwanted parts are cut off.

V

Viewfinder
That part of the camera used to frame the image.
