Flash Photography
This section explains how to take pictures with a flash.
Flashes are used in lighting up and taking pictures of backlighted subjects or the dark area as well as in taking pictures in dark
places. The camera has features, such as flash synchronization effect, which fires the flash at the beginning or end of a slow
shutter.
Refer to "Flash Synchronization Effect" (P. 51) for details.
Flash Preparation
If a flash is needed for a certain picture, the orange lamp inside the
viewfinder will light up when the shutter release button is pressed down
halfway. The orange lamp in the viewfinder blinks when the flash is
required.
Press the flash pop-up button.
The flash will pop up.
Flash Illumination Range
Flash Modes
This camera has 4 flash modes. Use them according to photographic
conditions and objective. The flash mode is displayed on the control
panel.
AUTO-FLASH mode (No icon)
Automatically fires in low-light and backlight conditions. (P. 21)
RED-EYE REDUCING FLASH mode
Significantly reduces the phenomenon of "red-eye" (When subject's eyes
appear red in flash photos). (P. 22)
Automatically fires in low-light and backlight conditions. (P. 21)
FILL-IN FLASH mode
Fires regardless of available light. (P. 22)
OFF mode
The flash does not fire. (P. 23)

NOTE
• The flash is being charged while the Orange lamp is blinking.In this
status, it is not possible to take a picture. Wait until the Orange lamp
goes off to take the picture.
• When the shutter is popped up or retracted while the shutter release
button is kept pressed halfway, the orange lamp will start blinking and
no shooting will be possible. Release your finger from the shutter
release button and then press it again.

NOTE
• It is recommended that you perform the sequent full-light emission
up to 30 times to prevent overheat and deterioration of the light emis-
sion part. It takes at least 10 minutes to cool it down.
• The sequent light emission with the light emission part stained can
accelerate its deterioration.
