RECEPTION WITH FAX/TELEPHONE SWITCH ENABLED
With the set-up parameter "FAX/PHONE" enabled, the facsimile machine can recognize whether
the call is an ordinary telephone call or the caller wants to send a fax (this feature is not available
in all countries).

The facsimile machine is in standby. The display shows the message "FAX/PHONE".
When the caller wants to send a document:
1. The machine recognizes that the incoming call is a fax call and, after a certain number of rings,
prepares to receive a document. The display shows the information associated with the
document (current page, transmission speed, whether the ECM function is enabled) and the
sender's facsimile number (or name, if stored on the sender's machine).

2. At the end of reception, the facsimile machine beeps and returns to standby.
When the caller wants to have a conversation:
1. The machine recognizes that the incoming call is a voice call and then informs you by beeping
and the TX/RX LED blinking.
2. Lift the handset and talk in the ordinary way. If you hear nothing, press the TALK key.
If the handset is not lifted within a few seconds, the facsimile machine prepares to
automatically receive a document.
RECEPTION WITH AN EXTERNAL TELEPHONE ANSWERING DEVICE
If a telephone answering device is connected, set it as follows:
- record a message that lasts about 10 seconds similar to the following:
" This is the answering device on fax number nnnnnn. Please leave a message after the beep.
To send a document press the start key on your machine. Thank you."
- and then set, on the telephone answering device, the number of rings to be counted before
the TAD answers the call (we recommend 2 or 3 rings).
Then enable the set-up parameter "FAX/TAD" (this function is not available in all countries).
When there is an incoming call, the facsimile machine recognizes whether it is a fax or voice call.
In the former case, the facsimile machine will deactivate the TAD and automatically receive the
document; while, in the latter, the TAD will answer by playing the prerecorded message and will
record the message left by the caller.
