This chapter describes how to connect the Odyssey
®
Imager to the
computer using Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) with either automatic
(DHCP) or static addressing. Three different configurations for the
hardware are shown. In the Basic configuration, the Odyssey Imager
is connected only to the computer. In the Networked configurations,
the Odyssey Imager is connected to the network and can be accessed
by any computer on the network.
The Odyssey Imager is a network server device that can be
connected to a network, and ultimately to a computer, via TCP/IP. To
make network configurations easier, the Odyssey Imager uses
Rendezvous – an open, standards-based networking technology that
automatically connects electronic devices on the same network.
Rendezvous technology allows Odyssey Application Software
running on a computer to communicate with the Odyssey Imager
and automatically create an IP-based network without any user
configuration.
Several different networking schemes are discussed in this chapter.
The Basic configuration gets you up and running quickly using
Rendezvous technology. This configuration connects the Odyssey
Imager and computer to each other in a stand-alone network using
one of the computer’s two Network Interface Cards. The computer’s
second NIC can then be used to connect the computer to a local
network. The other two configurations connect the Odyssey Imager
