Console Operation
Without MIDI
Without MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface), the NOVA Systems MIDI 616 is an excellent
memory lighting control console for live performances. With the GO and BACK features, and the ease
of storing lighting “scenes” in memory, the MIDI 616 can adapt to a wide variety of applications.
Operation of the MIDI 616 without utilizing the MIDI functions would typically be as follows:
Lighting levels (or “scenes”) are set up using the channel level slide controls. On cue, tap the GO button
and the lighting levels that you have set will light the stage. The next step is to set up your next scene
using the channel level slide controls. On cue, tap the GO button again to add a spot light or change the
background colors. To bounce back and forth between two scenes, simply tap the BACK and GO
buttons alternately.
When you have a “look” that you want to save for use again, while the channel level slide controls are
still at their desired intensities, tap the PROGRAM button followed by the MEMORY button for the
memory location that you want it saved in. Then, when you want to recall that same “look” again,
simply tap the specific MEMORY button, instead of the GO button.
FLASH buttons are used for special effects like drum lights, or for spot lighting. The programming for
FLASH buttons is the same as for MEMORY buttons, and they can be reprogrammed without affecting
the current lighting scene on stage.
Chase can also be activated at any time without affecting the current lighting scene on stage. To activate
Chase by itself, tap the BLACKOUT button before tapping the CHASE button. To deactivate the Chase
feature, simply tap the BLACKOUT button once. A second tap of the BLACKOUT button at this time
will blackout any other lights that are currently on.
