Reference for Passport 4460 Hardware
6-Port Serial Data Expansion Module
The 6-Port Serial Data Expansion Module provides additional serial port
capability, with each of the six ports providing functionality identical to Port 1 on
the base module. You can install as many as two modules in a Passport 4460.
A Breakout Panel (214061-A) with an integrated connecting cable is available for
the 6-Port Serial Data Expansion Module to support cable connection of the six
serial ports. (Refer to
“Breakout Panel and Cable” on page 74
for more
information.)
The 6-Port Serial Data Expansion Module provides the following features:
•
Six serial data ports on one module
•
Supports RS-232/V.24, V.35, V.36, and X.21 physical interfaces
•
Supports DTE and DCE modes
•
Auto-sensing DCE or DTE interfaces (when appropriate cable is used)
•
All six ports configurable as WAN ports with external DSU/CSU
•
Provides clock within 100 parts per million (ppm)
•
Provides a recommended maximum bandwidth of 3 Mb shared among the
six ports. (Ports 1 through 3 share a bandwidth of 2.048 Mb, and ports 4
through 6 share a bandwidth of 2.048 Mb. However, It is recommended
that you use no more than 3 Mb total for all six ports, due to system
limitations. Therefore, all six ports cannot be running at their maximum
speed simultaneously.)
The 6-Port Serial Data Expansion Module supports these data services:

Constant Bit Rate (CBR)

FRDCE (standard frame relay)

HTDS (HDLC Transparent Data Service)
•
HTDS Cut Through
