MACHINE OPERATION
TRAVEL MODE
CAUTION
INURY HAZARD! Sudden tops can cause
the operator to move and make hard
contact inside the cab. The operator must
wear the seat belt in either
TRAVEL
or
WORK mode.
FORWARD RAILWAY TRAVEL
To propel the machine forward on the rail:
1. Start the engine and set the machine to NORMAL
OPERATION.
2. Raise the rail lift workhead by pressing (if required)
the
RAIL LIFT CYCLE SET/RESET
button on the
joystick to release the rails. See Figure 5-7.
3. Press both
RAIL LIFT RAISE
switches at the same
time to evenly raise the rail lift workhead.
4. Use the joystick to fully raise and retract the tie
exchanger workhead.
5. Place the
RAIL LIFT LOCK/UNLOCK
switch in the
LOCK
position.
6. Place the
LEFT TIE EXCHANGER
LOCK/UNLOCK
and
RIGHT TIE EXCHANGER
LOCK/UNLOCK
switches in the
LOCK
positions.
7. Place the
TRAVEL LIGHTS
switch in the
ON
position. The front travel lights and rear marker
lights are automatically selected with the
TRAVEL
switch in the
FORWARD
position.
8. Release the
PARKING BRAKE
if previously set.
9. Place the
TRAVEL/WORK
switch in the
TRAVEL
position. This switch:
— Retracts the hydraulic cylinders for the rail lift
workhead.
— Inflates the air springs.
— Disables the hand controller.
10. Place the
TRAVEL
switch in the
FORWARD
position.
11. Press down on the forward travel foot pedal.
REVERSE RAILWAY TRAVEL
To propel the machine in reverse on the rail:
1. Start the engine and set machine to NORMAL
OPERATION. See Figure 5-7.
2. Raise the rail lift workhead by pressing (if required)
the
RAIL LIFT CYCLE SET/RESET
button on the
joystick to release the rails.
3. Press both
RAIL LIFT RAISE
switches at the same
time to evenly raise the rail lift workhead.
4. Use the joystick to fully raise and retract the tie
exchanger workhead.
5. Place the
RAIL LIFT LOCK/UNLOCK
switch in the
LOCK
position.
6. Place the
LEFT TIE EXCHANGER
LOCK/UNLOCK
and
RIGHT TIE EXCHANGER
LOCK/UNLOCK
switches in the
LOCK
position.
7. Place the
TRAVEL LIGHTS
switch in the
ON
position. The rear travel lights and front marker
lights are automatically selected with the
TRAVEL
switch in the
REVERSE
position.
8. Release the
PARKING BRAKE
if previously set.
9. Place the
TRAVEL/WORK
switch in the
TRAVEL
position. This switch:
— Retracts the hydraulic cylinders for the rail lift
workhead.
— Inflates the air springs.
— Disables the hand controller.
10. Place the
TRAVEL
switch in the
REVERSE
position.
11. Press down on the reverse travel foot pedal.
