Notes on Digital Zoom
• When the digital zoom is used, the camera focuses at the center of the frame.
• The digital zoom cannot be used when Portrait , Night portrait , Backlighting with HDR set to
On , Pet portrait , Underwater , or smart portrait mode is selected in scene mode.
• This feature may not be used in combination with certain features. See “Features That Cannot Be
Used Simultaneously” (

Option Description
Auto
(default setting)
AF-assist illuminator lights automatically if the lighting is dim. The
illuminator has a range of about 3.5 m (11 ft) at the maximum wide-
angle position and about 2.0 m (6 ft 6 in.) at the maximum telephoto
position.
• For some focus areas and scene modes such as Museum (

43)
and Pet portrait (
A
46), AF-assist illuminator does not turn on
even if Auto is set.
Off
AF-assist illuminator does not light. The camera may be unable to
focus if lighting is dim.
