4. Prepare the patient’s condition.
1) Clean the forehead rest and chin rest with a
clean gauze. If a bunch of chin rest paper is
fixed on the chin rest, remove one paper.
2) Instruct the patient to take off his/her glasses
or contact lenses and to have a seat.
3) Instruct the patient to place his/her chin on
the chin rest and to rest his or her forehead
on the forehead rest.
4) Adjust the height of the chin rest by turning
the chin rest knob until the center level of
the patient’s eye aligns with the eye level
marker.
NOTE
• To relax the patient, explain as follows before measurement. “This instrument measures
your eye with infrared ray to find which kind of lens fits you. The infrared ray does no
harm to your eyes.”
5. Perform alignment and focusing.
1) Instruct the patient to: “Look through the measuring window. As you will see a picture of a
balloon, see the center of it without straining.”
