5.1 Loop Connections
The Scale Interface has eight inputs for connection to either Mettler Toledo scales or
Sartorius balances.
NOTE:
Although the BioCommand communication port supports up to 16 loops,
only 8 are available due to the capabilities of the interface box.
Before making connections, verify that all equipment involved has been turned off, and
that the controller’s rear panel is accessible. Now, connect the output cable from each
scale to an input connection on the back of the interface box.
NOTE:
If the connection gender does not match (i.e., the scale-supplied cable
plug does not mate with the connection on the interface box rear panel), a
gender changer adapter is available from most computer stores.
5.2 Computer Connections
There are two computer connectors on the rear panel of the Controller. One is a
nine-pin port labeled
LOCAL
, which is used to connect the controller to the
computer running the controller interface software. The other is a 25-pin port
labeled
AFS
, which is reserved for connecting the controller to an optional
BioCommand supervisory host computer.
To connect the controller to the computer running the controller interface
software, follow these steps:
1. Turn off your computer.
2. Connect the RS232 cable to an unused
COM
port on the back of your
computer (either
COM1
or
COM2
). Connect the other end to the nine-pin port
labeled
LOCAL
on the rear panel of the
CONTROLLER
.
3. Make sure the connections are secure, and hand tighten the thumbscrews.
