Dual Band Wireless VDSL2 + Ethernet Gateway
•
IP Address
. The IP address that the gateway assigned to this device when it joined
the network. This number can change if a device is disconnected and rejoins the
network.
•
MAC Address
. The unique MAC address for each device does not change. The MAC
address is typically shown on the product label.
•
Connection Type
. The method used to access to the gateway, wired or wireless.

Custom Static Routes
Static routes provide routing information to your gateway. In most situations, you don’t need
to create custom static routes. You must configure static routes only for unusual cases such
as multiple gateways or multiple IP subnets on your network.
As an example of when a static route is needed, consider the following case:
•
Your primary Internet access is through a cable modem to an ISP.
•
Your home network includes an ISDN gateway for connecting to the company where you
are employed. This gateway’s address on your LAN is 192.168.0.100.
•
Your company’s network address is 134.177.0.0.
When you first configured your gateway, two implicit static routes were created. A default
route was created with your ISP as the gateway, and a second static route was created to
your local network for all 192.168.0.x addresses. With this configuration, if you attempt to
access a device on the 134.177.0.0 network, your gateway forwards your request to the ISP.
The ISP forwards your request to the company where you are employed, and the company’s
firewall denies the request.
In this case you must define a static route, telling your gateway that 134.177.0.0 should be
accessed through the ISDN gateway at 192.168.0.100. This example assumes the following
settings:
•
The
Destination IP Address
and
IP Subnet Mask
fields specify that this static route
applies to all 134.177.x.x addresses.
•
The
Gateway IP Address
field specifies that all traffic for these addresses is forwarded
to the ISDN gateway at 192.168.0.100.
•
A metric value of
1
works because the ISDN gateway is on the LAN.
•
Private
is selected only as a precautionary security measure in case RIP is activated.
Set Up a Static Route
To set up a static route:
1.
Launch a web browser from a computer or wireless device that is connected to the
network.
2.
