Connections for Multi-Gigabit Ethernet Throughput

ProSAFE Dual Band Wireless AC Access Point Model WAC740
Connection to a High-Speed Switch
You can use a single cable to connect the access point’s 2.5 Gbps Ethernet LAN port 1 to a
multi-Gigabit capable Ethernet switch such as the NETGEAR M4200 ProSAFE Managed
Switch, which is an NBASE-T switch that provides speeds up to 5 Gbps as well as PoE+
(802.3at).
Note:
The access point requires PoE+. PoE (802.3af) is not sufficient. If
your switch does not support PoE+ (802.3at), you can purchase a
NETGEAR power adapter for the access point.
To connect the access point to the switch, you must use access point LAN port 1 (the
rightmost LAN port). All ports on the NETGEAR M4200 ProSAFE Managed Switch support at
least 2.5 Gbps and provide PoE+.
In such a configuration, do not use access point LAN port 2, which is intended only for a static
link aggregation group (LAG) connection. The connection that is provided through LAN port 1
is sufficient to achieve multi-Gigabit Ethernet throughput and receive PoE+.
For information about setting up a high-speed connection to the switch, see
Option 1: Set Up
a 100/1000 Mbps or 2.5 Gbps Connection to the Switch
on page 18.
