5-48 Installing Options

IDE Signal Cables

Desktop systems with an IDE hard disk drive come with a
two-connector IDE interface cable attached to the primary
PCI/IDE connector. Systems also come with a three-
connector IDE cable connected to the secondary PCI/IDE
connector.

Minitower systems with an IDE hard disk drive come with a
three-connector IDE interface cable attached to the primary
IDE connector. Systems also come with a three-connector
IDE cable connected to the secondary PCI/IDE connector.

Each PCI/IDE connector on the riser board supports two
IDE devices.

If you are installing an optional IDE CD-ROM reader,
connect it to the secondary IDE connector. The primary
IDE connector should be reserved for hard disks.

The following figure shows a typical three-connector IDE
cable. If the IDE cable is not keyed with a connector tab,
align the colored edge of the cable with the pin 1 side of the
drive connector.
