Functions of Device Expansion Unit

The Device Expansion Unit includes four slots to which 5.25-inch devices are to be
inserted.
The Device Expansion Unit can be equipped with up to two full-height 5.25-inch devices.

Interface
The Device Expansion Unit has two SAS bus lines at the shipment and can be equipped
with two 5.25-inch devices for each SAS bus line.
Optional SAS cables K410-335(00) allow SAS devices to be used.
Up to four lines are available depending on how a combination of optional SAS cables
K410-335(00) are connected to expansion connectors.

Redundant power configuration
In the 1-power configuration at the shipment, the Device Expansion Unit becomes
unavailable if the power unit is failed.
In the redundant power configuration, the Device Expansion Unit can be used
continuously without power-off if either of the power units is failed. For the redundant
power configuration, use optional power unit N8181-54F.

2-power configuration
In the 1-power configuration at the shipment or the redundant power configuration, the
powers of all NEC Express Servers connected with the Device Expansion Unit must be
turned off in order to turn off the power of the Device Expansion Unit. However, in the
2-power configuration, the power of each power unit may be turned on/off independently.
For the 2- power configuration, use optional power unit N8181-54F.
