measurements if the Laser beam does not have a clear path between the gauge and the surface being 
measured. This would be indicated by a Quality Factor equal to zero or in the red zone on the bar graph. 

5.6.3 

Length Mode Display 

 

The Length Mode Screen has three modes of operation, the Contiguous Length mode, the Reset Length 
mode and the Final Length mode. 

In Contiguous Length mode, LaserTrak samples the instantaneous length output values from the LaserSeed 
every 50ms and when 3 values of the same length are reported consecutively, LaserTrak takes that as the 
final length measurement.  This can be accomplished by making the speed go to zero thereby freezing the 
length counter or by using the Material present signal to freeze length readings.  The length must remain the 
same for a minimum of 3 readings or approximately 150ms. 

In Reset Length mode, LaserTrak also samples the instantaneous length output values from the LaserSpeed 
every 50ms and when the length decreases from the previous reading by more than 10%, LaserTrak takes 
that as the final length reading.  Note that because LaserTrak is sampling the instantaneous length measure-
ments, the true maximum length at reset is not known and a final length error of up to 0.05*velocity/sec can 
be expected. 

Final Length mode cannot be used with the LS8500-4 gauge as it does not support the TF mode output.
