User Troubleshooting Procedure

•

Via the in-band configuration, verify the SMB is in Server Management mode, verify the
modem initialization string is correct, and verify the modem attached to the SMB is being
correctly initialized. Usually &D0 must be included for correct DTR control and &C1 must
be included for correct Carrier Detect control.

•

Verify that the out-of-band application sends the break within 10 seconds after the SMB is
connected.

•

Reset the SMB via in-band and try again.

Use a terminal program and manually dial the SMB. Once connected, send breaks until you see
the password prompt (NOTE: Pressing break in the Windows terminal program sends a
break signal).

Cannot Log In To SMB Out-of-band

Possible Causes

•

Bad/incorrect password

•

Passwords disabled

•

Incorrect COM port settings

•

Incorrect initialization string

User Troubleshooting Procedure

•

Verify the passwords are enabled via the in-band console

•

Attempt to use one of the other enabled password(s)

•

Change password via in-band console

Verify password entered correctly (Note: Passwords are case-sensitive).

•

Verify the modem attached to the SMB is being correctly initialized. Usually &D0 must be
included for correct DTR control and &C1 must be included for correct Carrier Detect
control.
